Shakespeare Revisited

Ophelia: Woe is me
To have seen what I have seen, see what I see.

— Hamlet Act III, scene i

Hamlet: Lady, shall I lie in your lap?
Ophelia: No, my lord.
Hamlet: I mean, my head upon your lap?
Ophelia: Ay, my lord.
Hamlet: Do you think I meant country matters?
— Hamlet Act III, scene ii

William Shakespeare was born in 1564, in Stratford — a tiny village with at that time a population of approximately 1,500. In the summer of 1579, when Shakespeare was 15-years-old, a young woman named Katherine Hamlet fell into the river Avon and drowned, an incident the young William Shakespeare would surely have known about.

Is Shakespeare all that?
